Your Last Stop Before Home after school childcare

Home-style after school childcare for K-5 in Nyack
You can't always be home when your child finishes school, but that doesn't mean your child can't feel like they're at home.
When my oldest was in preschool, I worked in an office 9-6 each day. She was always the last child picked up. It broke my heart that at such a young age, she had to be "on" for an extended period of time. After school childcare can be a reprieve when done correctly. My goal is for your child to come to my home and feel like they can exhale and just be a kid, who is taken care of by adults, not a kid who has to behave for adults.
I've been obsessed with learning Spanish since the second grade. So much so, that it was one of my majors in college! We will offer at least one Spanish activity each day, be it a free-play station, game, vocabulary, song, or story.
Music keeps me moving. And while I will not subject your children to hours of me singing, I would happily share one of my many guitar and ukuleles with them and do some light instruction.
Though I'm a writer and storyteller by trade, I moon light as a preschool teacher at the Nursery School of the Nyacks. I've learned from the smartest, most-patient teachers around.
I'm an Upper Nyack mom, myself.
My oldest is a rising fourth grader, and my youngest is entering pre-K.
I'm a published comedy writer and sketch writer/producer. I love to make people laugh, and I tend to do well with a school-age audience. (My kids are the first to tell me when my jokes need some work.)
I really care that your child is seen, heard, and checked in with at the end of each school day. I will learn your child's cues and make sure they have a safe place to be themselves between school and home.
After a long day of school, children need time to exhale. When they walk through the doors of their “second home,” they know a dedicated adult is there to care for them. They can let go of the responsibilities and pressure of the school day, and get re-centered in themselves knowing they are loved and safe.
Each day children will be greeted with a well-balanced snack. Older children who are interested in helping prepare the snack are welcome to flex their culinary skills. One day per week, we will do a cooking activity together as a group.
Once each child has had a snack and time to decompress, we will move into homework help. Homework time will be limited to what is age-appropriate for each child. I do not believe in putting additional pressure or stress on children, so their cues will let me know when it's time to pack it up. I will honor their needs.
I love to have fun and believe learning and work can (and really ought to be) fun. We will alternate between music (I play ukulele and guitar and can do some light instruction), Spanish (I am fluent in Spanish), cooking, crafts, and more. When children want to relax with a book and do free play, they're encouraged to do that as well.

After Class Nyack is a small-group after-school program. Because of the limited number of spots, we encourage parents to book in advance or to save their child's space on a monthly basis.
Our daily and drop in rates are $37 per day. Discounts are applied to full-month attendees. Sibling discounts are available on a limited basis. Get in touch with your specific scheduling needs to learn more.
Take the first step to learning if After Class Nyack is the right program for your family. Fill out this brief form and I will follow up with you to schedule a time to talk.
Please reach me at Jaclyn@afterclassnyack.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We operate on the Nyack School District Calendar. We provide aftercare from 3:15-6:15 PM
We can provide car transportation for a limited number of students. If your child receives a bus from UNES, they can be dropped off right up the street from our house. You can arrange it with the school, no problem!
We currently hold space for 6-8 children, depending on age(s) and sibling combinations.
Television time will be reserved for rare circumstances. When permitted, it will be limited to 20 minutes and will be documentary-type, educational content.
We have a yard with toys, and children can play outside when the weather is nice (or nice-ish.)
We are allergy-aware and able to accommodate certain dietary restrictions (reach out to me, please!) However we are a pet-friendly household. If your child has significant dog or cat allergies, we unfortunately are not the program for you (which makes us sad, too).
No more half-day stress! On half days, we start aftercare when school lets out. Kids eat lunch around 11:45. After care will run until 1:30.
We price based on the number of school days in each month. So you pay only for the days you reserve, and not for any school holidays or breaks.
We serve grades K-5. If you have a middle schooler who doesn't need to "be watched" but would benefit from not going home to an empty house every day, please send me an email.
After Class Nyack costs $37/day per child when booked by the day. You can book in advance or the day of, as long as we have availability. We also offer options to reserve your child's spot for an entire month.
We do not refund snow days as supplies and snacks have already been purchased. However, you can still use your child's spot. On snow days, we open from 12:30- 2:45. Bring your child over after lunch and we will have some fun!
We look forward to hearing from you, answering your questions, and learning more about you and your family.
